Simple Weddings

Simple weddings have become vastly undervalued as people have subscribed to the notion that ‘bigger is better’. As weddings have become exceedingly more elaborate, premarital anxiety has increased for all members of the wedding party. Common reasons for stress and anxiety surrounding the pending nuptials are:
- The expense of elaborate wedding plans.
- Issues with control over the wedding (not so much of problem between the betrothed couple; usually issues arise from within the bridal party).
- Becoming emotionally distant from your fiance due to spending large amounts of time planning the wedding.
As you can see, even not being worried about the budget, simple weddings can make the quality of the event so much more enjoyable. You want to get along and enjoy your bridal party, after all they are your close friends. And of course you want to be making the most of your time with your fiance, as soon you will no longer be engaged; you will actually be married! So you want to reduce anything superfluous. You need to assess what is important to your wedding:
- Is it having the Vera Wang gown?
If you know it is going to make you feel like a celebrity or royalty, then this may be an area for consideration. You might want to adjust your budget and/or time to invest in finding the dress.
- Is it having a nice reception?
If so then maybe think about inviting a portion of your guests to the reception after the ceremony. You can have an elegant and affordable reception with just a few minor adjustments.
- Is it the guest list?
This can be a real breaking point for simple weddings; if you over-invite, things tend to get hectic real quick. But you must have the really important people there otherwise you will regret it. And the last thing that anybody wants is looking back on their wedding day with any kind of regret. The beauty of simple weddings is that they are on average less expensive, less stress, and more fun!

Wedding Invitations – How Do You Want Yours?
July 30, 2010 at 2:57 pm , by Jen
Wedding Invitations are personal and set the tone of ones wedding. Invitations can be simple on inexpensive store brought paper or very elaborate etched pieces of gold. It all depends for the most part on your budget and your personal style and taste.
Wedding Invitations are very personal and intimate. No one publishes a public invitation card for a wedding. One creates a guest list and personally invites the guests to the wedding by means of a wedding invitation. A lot of thought and care is given to carve that list so as not to miss anybody important in our lives to attend our memorable event.
The wedding invitations reflect the tone of the wedding event. The invitation cards can be very expensive or very simple. It all depends on what kind of budget one has and how creative one is. A Wedding invitation unlike other invitations may have several pieces inside one main container for instance it could contain an invitation for a wedding, an invitation for a reception, a response card, details of the ceremony, venues, location maps and sometimes even a dress code.
The most modern form of Wedding Invitation is an Email invitation which is gaining popularity every day, but the basic concept of the invitation, content and design element remain the same. Similar effort is put into email invitations as is put into printed invitations, the electronic version of invitations can be more entertaining, attractive and interactive at the same time. Some innovative minds invite their guests by launching private websites which are only for their guests to see by invitation through email with a password for the private website. The reasoning behind this electronic medium usage is that it has a distinct advantage of a wider reach, in time response online, multiple invites and reminders to the guests which is all very attractive as the guests are not likely to forget even if they want to.
Traditional Wedding Invitations are generally in cotton or linen paper in white engraved in black or pastel ink colors. Many people prefer to have their invitations customized in non standard sizes and variety of materials with elaborate or simple classic tasteful designs. The response cards or RSVP cards are usually enclosed inside the wedding invitations to let the host know if the person will be attending the event or not which makes it easier for the host to manage the ceremony seating and reception menu etc and how best to take care of all attendees at the wedding.
As indicated the Wedding invitations are very personal and the wording plays a major role in the invitation. While the supplier or the publisher of the wedding invitation cards offer literally thousands of designs and a variety of standard content, it is always better to have a customized content that reflects your own personal style although the information presented in all the wedding invitations is pretty standard, it is the manner and the style of the presentation that reflects your personality and style.
Even though the Wedding invitations are printed separately by the bride and the groom in different styles and designs, the content and meaning reflected must be the same. The bride and the groom may choose a theme for their wedding which is indicated in the invitation cards to the guests so that they can participate in accordance with the theme.
Both Bride and the grooms full names are printed on the wedding invitations. Certain rules are followed for instance if you want to send some wedding gifts or wedding favors with the invitations to the prospective guests, it is perfectly acceptable but it is not acceptable but it is not acceptable to indicate your gifts or wedding registry details on the invitations.
Some interesting celebrity wedding invitations included Britney Spears wedding invitations which was reported to be delivered in a bag with a special note to the guests and one of the wedding invitation later appeared on Ebay Auction and reportedly sold for $2150.
Another interesting Wedding invitation was that of an Indian Businessman’s daughter in U.K attended by many celebrities from various fields with a 20 page gold edged wedding invitations with hand printed images and details of various functions and venues and the invitation itself was accompanied by an intricately carved silver container weighing almost 5KG.
Wedding invitation is after all a matter of personal taste.

Money Saving Wedding Tips

Each time you add a name to your invitation list, you’re increasing your budget significantly. It’s not just the catering costs, but also the extra centerpieces, favors, rentals, etc. Don’t invite anyone you haven’t talked to in five years. Don’t feel obligated to let single people bring a date. Avoid feeling pressured to invite all your work colleagues. And don’t let your friends bring their children. You can also decide to eliminate categories like “relatives more distant than first cousins” or “friends from volunteer work.” By not inviting anyone from that group, you’ll help avoid hurt feelings.
For religious weddings, consider having your wedding near a major holiday. The church will already be decorated, saving you lots of money on flowers. On other days, look for simplicity. A candlelit ceremony can be romantic, gorgeous, and inexpensive.
Unlike many types of clothing, wedding dresses don’t get much wear- so they’re the perfect used item of clothing! You’ll also want to check out the huge selection of gowns on eBay. If you go with eBay, get yourself measured very carefully to make sure the dress fits. Even better, visit a local store and find a few dresses that look fabulous on you– and then look for the same gowns on eBay in your correct size. Who’s going to know it’s used– and who cares?
You may be dreaming of the perfect, fairytale wedding. However, if you do not have the time and money needed to create such a wedding, trying to do so will only cause financial hardship and unneeded stress. So, if you have lots of money to spare and can afford a wedding planner and all the other luxuries, then go ahead. Otherwise, you will need to keep the wedding small and simple so that you and your friends and family can take care of the various arrangements yourself. Even a simple wedding will provide you with plenty of memories to cherish for a life time.
If your wedding is at a time of year in which flowers bloom readily, consider using flowers from your garden, or from assorted friends and relatives. This could be a little risky, so you may need a Plan B, in case nature interferes with a sudden harsh hot or cold spell, or locusts attack or the dog digs up all the flowering plants etc! With a bit of research and planning (and a Plan B) you might even try planting seedlings, far enough in advances, to bloom for your wedding. These can even be used in their pots for stunning displays, and picked for bouquets. Using beautifully toned foliage for a lot of your displays, maybe with just a few accent flowers, can be magnificent. These can often easily be obtained from trees and bushes of friends and family for no cost.
Sometimes saving money can be as simple as celebrating your individuality or taking into account unique attributes of your venue. Instead of a guestbook full of names that might be meaningless in 50 years, we decided to take a group shot of our entire wedding party and guests. Seeing how everyone looked on that wonderful day is so meaningful to us — and we saved on the cost of a guestbook, pen and other accoutrements that add to the bottom line.

Choosing a Wedding Dress for Your Body Shape
July 30, 2010 at 2:57 pm , by Jen
Like any bride-to-be, it’s easy to fall in the trap of having to find the perfect dress for your wedding day. Does such a thing exist? Yes, but it’s wise to remember that you’ll go through piles and piles of dresses to find the right one. The pressure of choosing a wedding dress is a common scenario that plays out in many bridal stores, and you’re not alone. As with any article of clothing, however, choosing the appropriate dress for your body shape is important. And if that dress is your wedding gown, there’s added incentive to find the right one.
Few dresses are ideal for everyone – and there are obviously assets you would like to emphasize and others you’d prefer to downplay. Usually, the sales associate at most bridal boutiques or stores will be able to offer an accurate analysis of the dresses you’ve selected, though you can also have your gown altered to make sure it ‘hugs’ you in the right places. While no body is alike, the following guidelines on choosing a wedding dress are designed to help you stick to the right style when browsing through the racks, online, or even having a dress specially made.
The Right Dress for Your Wedding Day
If you’re like most women, you’ve been dreaming about your wedding day since you were a little girl, imagining a beautiful, fluffy white ball gown. Choosing your wedding dress may not be so simple. Today’s bride has a plethora of gown options available to her, including A-line, sheath, mermaid, empire, and ball gown silhouettes. Though fitting sessions are the only way to tell what works best for you, the following body shape tips are meant to help you sort through the pile.
Hourglass: This shape is, by far and large, considered the ideal of feminine beauty. Ball gowns are perfect for those with smaller waistlines, while form-fitting gowns work just as well and cleverly show off your curves. Choosing a wedding dress like a dropped waist wedding gown, an updated look from the 1920s that’s becoming very popular, works well for those with longer torsos and some height to them. Hourglass-shaped women are usually on the bustier side, so you’ll want to avoid the harsh straight lines of some strapless gowns; instead, opt for sweetheart necklines or something with a little twist.
Rectangular: Finding a dress for your wedding day is all about knowing your body shape. The idea here is to look for gowns that create curves even if you don’t have them. Elegant sheath dresses cut on the bias or bust-enhancing necklines create curves where none exist. A cinched waist dress on your wedding day, one with slightly puffier skirts, will similarly capitalize on your small waist and create volume.
Slim: A mermaid or trumpet dress for your wedding day is perfect for the slimmer bride with smaller hips, though this style can favor anyone on the slender side. A dress with a ruched bodice will create the appearance of a larger bust line, and, again, add curves where needed. Modified A-line gowns with slightly higher waist lines will make you appear taller as well.
Oval: Oval-shaped and plus-sized brides benefit from the classic lines of empire dresses; whether simple or jazzed up with some embellishments, this dress (a wedding day classic) hides numerous figure flaws and enhances the bust line. When choosing a wedding dress in the empire style, remember that it should be somewhat fitted, since a gown that’s too loose can become billowy.
Show Off Your Wedding Day Style
As a last note, an A-line dress on your wedding day is more often than not universally flattering. Tall brides should keep the lines, detailing, and fabric simple, though smaller brides can pull off fabrics with high sheen; however, they, too, should avoid decked-out gowns, opting instead for nice touches at the neckline or the bust line to draw the eye up. Choosing a wedding dress in this style hides a lot of flaws, but still offers that big skirt appeal from your girlhood days in a stylish way. Sheath gowns, too, offer the same benefits as A-line gowns, meaning they camouflage many of the flaws you’re looking to hide. In this case, however, differentiating between constructed (more curvy brides) and loose sheaths (slender brides) makes the difference when choosing a wedding dress.

Do You Wear Informal Wedding Dresses?
July 30, 2010 at 2:57 pm , by Jen
Admit it. The idea of choosing between the formal wedding gowns with their feet and yards of fabric, hundreds and hundreds of buttons and sequins and thingamajigs, and the circles of petticoats and corsets can give you the Heebie Jeebies. Yes, perhaps enough to give cold feet!
Well, luckily for you, modern brides have more freedom to avoid the formality of marriage, including wedding dresses! Of course, you still have to follow proper wedding etiquette in some respects – except the date, invitations and other things – but at least your wedding dress informal burden off your shoulders, literally and figuratively.
Benefits of an informal wedding dress
Although her childhood dream wedding was filled with formal aspects similar to a wedding of Princess, the next adults enjoy the following benefits of an informal wedding dress:
* You can save on costs! Most informal wedding gowns at prices hundreds of dollars, which compares with the cost of official uniforms of thousands of dollars. Imagine how you can divert the savings, perhaps for your honeymoon! Or better yet, a down payment on their first home.
* You can save space on the packaging. This is particularly interesting when you are planning a destination wedding, where the garments are bulky and cumbersome.
* You may actually just bought a dress instead of two wedding dresses. You can use the same costume for the ceremony to the reception to the honeymoon.
* You can reuse your dress for other occasions as an informal party with friends and family.
With all these benefits, could not resist the temptation of an informal wedding dress? Fortunately not,!
The choice of dress
However, simply do not take the first white wedding dress informal spy on you. It is still your special day and your wedding dress should be special, too. Here are some tips to help you choose from many wedding dresses informally:
* Choose a hem that falls above the ankles. It can be tea length or an inch above the knee. Do not fall into the trap of trying to look sexy in a mini-microphone on their wedding day, because then you will be eligible for the title of “The Wedding Dress of the worst” El Mundo. Similarly, avoid excessive cuts in the body, thighs and buttocks cleavage showing dresses slit thigh.
* Try to keep things simple in terms of sequins and beads and thingamajigs and prints. Often, simple elegance is the key to taking a wedding dress informal.
As for accessories, would do well to keep things simple, too. You can wear jewelry to highlight your figure or your clothes underestimated, but do not remove the jewelry statement merely supplements a more formal wedding dress.
The best advice for wedding wear dresses informally: Be happy with her life, her husband, her family and friends! You realize quickly that you can always look a million wedding, even a casual wedding dress, because of its beauty shines from within. And the beauty that no amount of money can buy!
